More than 23,000 people in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin are living in fuel poverty, with cold homes putting them at risk of suffering illness, poor health and even death this winter.

As people continue to experience the impacts of Covid-19, this year it is more important than ever that we make sure the most vulnerable people in our society are kept safe, warm and well.

How we help

Our Warmer Winter Appeal raises money to give out in grants to households across Shropshire for emergency fuel and energy saving improvements in people’s homes.

We work with referral agencies to find people most in need and provide them with insulation, draft exclusion and other energy saving measures.

Who we help

Support from the Warmer Winter Appeal will have a direct impact on someone’s life in Shropshire.

Someone like Sheridan.

Sheridan has low blood pressure and feels the cold a lot. Her home has electric storage heaters but these weren’t enough to heat her house and she would often have to sit wrapped up in a duvet and blankets in an attempt to keep warm.

Her support officer nominated Sheridan to receive a grant that could be used to purchase an electric oil filled radiator, so she could at least have a warm lounge. Thanks to the support of people who donated to the Warmer Winter Appeal, we were able to help her purchase two radiators - one for her lounge and one for her bedroom.

We are also asking those who receive the Winter Fuel Payment who may not need it to donate some or all of it.
