Wellbeing & Care

We support people to stay active and connected to their communities and to maintain their health and independence so they live life to the full. We do this through a range of community-based projects with the help of a team of local and committed volunteers.

Hearing Loss Support

We provide information, advice and practical support to NHS hearing aid users in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.

Our volunteers are trained by NHS Audiology Service and as most of them are hearing aid wearers themselves they know from personal experience about adjusting to a hearing impairment.

We can offer support through:
• Home visits – someone will come and see you in your own home
• Residential and care home visits- to provide help to individual residents
• Hearing Loss Support Hubs – a pre-booked appointment at one of our regular hubs held around the county.
• Live Well with a Hearing Loss programme

Falls Prevention Events

Remaining physically active is vital to overall health and wellbeing, but as we age we’re more likely to be less active, resulting in a loss of strength and balance and an increased risk of falling.

Our falls prevention events help to reduce the risk of falling for older people.  We offer a range of events to suit different groups of people.

  • Falls Awareness – 90-minute sessions that can be incorporated into an organised group’s other activities.
  • Let’s Talk Falls – 2 ½ hour events, typically held in rural locations.
  • Functional Fitness MOTs – includes fitness tests measuring participants’ measuring strength, balance, flexibility and stamina.

To find out where scheduled upcoming events are being held, visit our
events calendar.

We are able to organise Functional Fitness MOTs and Falls Prevention events for community and social groups. If your group is made up of 10 or more people aged 60 and over who are interested in checking their overall fitness, keen to get more active and would benefit from finding out how to make their homes ‘falls proof’, please contact us.

Buddy System

Our Buddy System pairs a volunteer with someone who feels isolated and alone, supporting them to take part in local activities, make new friends and get more active.

The support from a Buddy will enable participants to take a crucial first step to take part in something new. That encouragement and motivation will help reduce isolation and boost confidence and self-esteem.

Could you offer encouragement and motivation to help someone become more involved in the local community?

How It Works Become a Buddy

Social Groups

We run a number of groups for adults with additional needs that provide a place to socialise, get peer support and access information about other local services available.

Our current social groups are for:

  • People with dementia and their family carers (known as Care and Share)
  • Adults with disabilities (known as M&Ms)
  • Adults with visual impairments (known as Sight Loss Opportunity Groups)
