West Midlands Community-led Housing Conference
10th Aug, 2018
Shropshire RCC is pleased to announce that it has secured an excellent line up of national and local speakers for their upcoming Community-led Housing (CLH) Conference. The event, aimed at the rural West Midland region, will take place on 19th September in Albrighton near Wolverhampton. It is part of a national programme of training events funded by the Nationwide Foundation and organised by Shropshire RCC on behalf of its regional ACRE Network partners.
The conference will explore how local people can play a positive, leading and lasting role in solving local housing issues, creating genuinely affordable homes to build stronger, fairer communities.
Speakers will include Tom Chance, acting director at the National CLT Network (NCLTN) who will share his experience of the negotiations with Government and the Community Housing Fund and will set out the collaboration of the NCLTN with UK Co-housing and Co-operatives UK.
Sarah Streater, Housing Delivery Manager and West Midlands lead for the recently announced Community Housing Fund at Homes England will explore how this can benefit the people and communities in YOUR county.
Daniel Sharf (better known from his blog 'Dan the Plan') will explore the role neighbourhood planning in the CLH journey.
Ian Crawley, a National CLT Network Trustee and CLH Technical Advisor and involved in several CLTs will open the conference and set the scene for us as well as leading the question and answer panel session that will round off the day
Jonathan Brown from Bishops Castle Community Land Trust will give us an insight in their journey and any lessons learned. We are hoping to announce details of one or two other case studies shortly.
Delegates from across Shropshire, Staffordshire, Telford & Wrekin, Warwickshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire will also have the opportunity to hear what support their local planning office offers in a quick fire speed dating type session. Nancy Winfield, Project Manager for the newly formed Herefordshire Centre for Community-led Housing will give a quick update on their progress.
Of course all the speakers will be available for questions and the conference is an excellent opportunity for networking also with other delegates from across the region. There will also be a market place with information stands covering all aspects of CLH including governance, legal, funding and community engagement. All our regional network partners will also be represented here.
The conference is aimed at Housing enablers, Land Agents, Surveyors, Architects, Planners, District and County Councils, Developers and anyone with an interest and involved in affordable housing schemes.
Explore the potential of Community-led Housing and the practicalities of achieving a successful project from finance and governance to community engagement.
