There was intense competition at the Shropshire Boccia Final recently. The annual tournament is organised by Shropshire RCC's Wise & Well Team and involves community Boccia clubs that have set up over the last four years.
Six teams had made it through from the Area Heats in Ludlow, Oswestry & Shrewsbury to compete for the County Cup. The Final required each team to play five matches and the total scores determined the winners. Sports students from Shrewsbury College refereed the matches and kept score.
Councillor Lee Chapman, Portfolio Holder for Adult Services, watched the competition develop during the morning and presented the medals.
The final results were:
Gold medalists and winners of the County Cup: The Recycled Teenagers from Longleat Close, Minsterley with 51 points.
Silver medals went to the Clee Hill Rebels A team with 37 points and Bronze Medals to the Royal Musketeers with 32 points.
Derrick Goodall, from Lindale Court, came as a spectator since his team narrowly missed making it into the Final. He thanked the Shrewsbury College and the students for running the Shrewsbury Heat and the Final and presented them with chocolates. Lee Chapman also awarded a Certificate to each of the students who had taken part.
