Shropshire RCC is supporting an event to share information about new technology that can improve the quality of life for people with sensory impairment. The See and Hear Exhibition is being held at Shrewsbury Sports Village from 10am to 4pm on Wednesday 13 May 2015.
The Exhibition educates visitors about the effects of sensory impairment, as well as offering support for those who currently live with a hearing or sight loss. The event is free to enter and is also providing a free shuttle bus from Shrewsbury railway station every half hour from 9.30am.
There will be Sighted Guide Training for friends, family and neighbours by Shrewsbury Guide Dogs, a Dementia Friends awareness session by Alzheimer’s Society, and a Hearing Aid Maintenance clinic run by Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Audiology Department. People will have the opportunity to discover how to use an accessible cash point and take part in sports taster sessions, including the chance to use a climbing wall and try different types of bicycles. Visitors can also have the health of their eyes checked for free by the Shropshire Local Optical Committee.
The See and Hear Exhibition will host a variety of new technology and gadgets for people to try, and there will be sighted guides, BSL and Deafblind Interpreters on hand throughout the day. Sighted Guides can be booked in advance, by contacting Pauline Rose on 01743 257745/6.
Helping to open the event, Stephen Chandler, Shropshire Council’s director of adult services, said:
“The See and Hear Exhibition has always proved to be informative, creative and really interesting. Each year has grown both in size and variety and I’m sure this year will be no different.”
