The Shropshire Lieutenancy is offering support to anyone in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin interested in nominating a group for the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service.
The award, often described as "the MBE for volunteer groups”, is given in recognition of the outstanding work done by groups in their communities. Winners receive a certificate signed by the Queen, a domed glass crystal, and representatives from the group are usually invited to attend a royal garden party.
Applications are now open for the 2021 Queen's Award and can be made here: https://qavs.culture.gov.uk
The Shropshire Lieutenancy has prepared a slide presentation for anyone who would like to learn more about the application process. Last year it ran workshops for interested applicants, and it is keen to offer support and guidance this year, despite being unable to host the sessions face-to-face.
The slideshow is available for download here: QAVS presentation
Please note, the nominated organisation needs to provide a specific local benefit, be more than three years old and more than half the people who work in it should be volunteers. Very small groups (minimum of three people) can be nominated and groups do not have to be formally registered as a charity.
