Community oil buying scheme expands into Staffordshire
25th Apr, 2019
Shropshire RCC is inviting rural households in Staffordshire to join our successful community oil buying scheme.
We set up the fuel buying service in 2011 to reduce the heating costs of those in off-gas areas, and is the largest bulk-buying oil scheme in Shropshire.
The scheme uses bulk buying power to drive the cost of heating oil down as much as possible, passing savings directly onto its members.
Development Officer Elizabeth Thain said: “We established this scheme because we wanted to help people in Shropshire who faced high fuel costs simply because they use oil-fired central heating.
“But we know the rural households in Staffordshire could also benefit from the same opportunity to make savings on their oil, which is why we want to make it available to people in both counties.”
Membership to the scheme is £24 per year which covers the running costs. Shropshire RCC then contacts the oil companies for their best price for a bulk order and then confirms the price and expected delivery date to its members.
Elizabeth added: “It can be quite time-consuming and confusing to track down the most affordable price to fill up your oil tank, which is why our service deals with the hassle of contacting suppliers to see which one can offer best value that month.”
