Shropshire Community Development Network

Community Development enables communities of all kinds to achieve change and social justice by working together in ways which challenge oppression and tackle inequality. It enables communities to identify their own needs and recognise their strenths, limitations, opportunities, rights and responsibilities. It supports them to plan, organise and take action, and to evaluate the impact of their actions on themselves and others.

Shropshire Community Development Network was set up in April 2004 to:

  • Steer and support training and practice development for community workers in the county
  • Identify community development needs in local communities and provide training for local skills and knowledge
  • Share good practice between different community projects and community workers
  • Map local community development work and community projects
  • Arrange visits to different community projects
  • Help with access to grants and other resources
  • Promote community development values and practice standards
  • Persuade statutory, government and voluntary agencies to use community development as an effective way to achieve community cohesion and equality

Membership of the Network is informal, and open to people who define themselves as doing community work and community development work in Shropshire. Membership is open to both paid and unpaid community workers and community activists.
