Due to an Advantage West Midlands review of all their funding programmes, Wheels to Work is unable to accept new referrals until further notice.

The Wheels to Work (W2W) scheme is run by the Community Council of Shropshire (CCS) with funding from Advantage West Midlands and The Shropshire Council and is part of the West Midlands W2W network.

The Shropshire W2W Scheme was awarded Best National Community Transport Social Enterprise Scheme in 2008 by The Community Transport Association (CTA).  Following this award, BBC Midlands Today featured W2W on their evening news programme.

The purpose of the scheme is to improve access to employment and work-based training for Shropshire residents (excluding Telford & Wrekin residents).

Applicants must be:

  • a Shropshire resident of working age and in need of financial assistance, and
  • unemployed, or at risk of losing employment, due to lack of transport, or
  • unable to access work-based training or employment due to lack of transport.

The W2W scheme is run by a Project Officer and an Assistant. The scheme currently offers the following transport solutions to eligible people:

  • Travel advice
  • Battery-power-assisted bicycle loans*
  • Moped loans*

*These transport solutions include training and essential safety equipment

The CCS W2W scheme has been cited as a model of good practice for more than 50 W2W schemes nationwide and has given advice and help to organisations planning to set up similar schemes. The Shropshire W2W experience has featured at various conferences and was the subject of a positive evaluation by Oxford Brookes University and Westminster University.  In September 2009 CCS W2W was awarded Matrix Accreditation for the quality of its information, advice and guidance.
