The Preventative Services Development Team works in partnership with a variety of organisations such as the Shropshire Health Improvement Service. Through these partnerships a range of opportunities have been developed to promote falls prevention for older people to increase their confidence, mobility and independence. This includes providing information at events, talks to small groups, promoting Extend exercise classes, Extend Teacher Training and production of the Banana Skins, Falls Prevention video.
Banana Skins: Falls Prevention VideoThe 'Banana Skins: Falls Prevention Video' was produced to help older people reduce the risk of falls. This video highlights ways of reducing risk factors in an amusing and entertaining format. It is designed to be shown and used by health professionals and those involved in community-based health and social care activities for older people. It is intended to be included as part of wider falls prevention, falls awareness and home safety talks, discussion groups and clinics.
The Banana skins Video is nine minutes long and comes with an information leaflet on ideas of ways to use it. It is available free to workers in Shropshire, and at a charge of £10 each including postage and packing from outside of the County.
