Sensory Resource & Development Service

You are here: HomeLocal People : Sensory Resource & Development Service

Our Mission

The Sensory Resource & Development Service provides a link between Health Services and Community/Social Services for people with a hearing or/and visual impairment. The service also promotes social inclusion through the support of sensory loss groups and community activities.

Activities

Our aims are to co-ordinate support including peer support, practical skills, advice and information to maintain the quality of life for people with a sensory impairment.

Volunteer Support Service

Some people find wearing a hearing aid very frustrating and it can take some time to feel comfortable and gain confidence.

All of our volunteers have a personal experience of a hearing loss and offer friendly advice, information and practical support with your hearing loss.

We come and see you at home, with visits usually taking about half an hour, although this does vary! Many people like to have a friend or family member with them for these visits: Our volunteers will be happy to answer any questions or concerns they may have too.

Having a hearing loss doesn't mean that you have to give up the things you enjoy. Our volunteers will help you to overcome difficulties you are facing because of your hearing loss and regain your independence.

If you would like to book a visit from one of our highly trained volunteers, please print off and complete the Self Referral Form below and return to us.

As soon as we receive your form we will then assign a volunteer in your area to visit you. The volunteer will phone or write to you to arrange a suitable time to see you.  All of our volunteers carry an identification card.  Please do not think that you will be offending them by asking to see it.
